Dear Gesu Families,

In grades 5-8, students are placed in grade-level, honors, or advanced classes for reading and math. Throughout this school year, the administration has collaborated with the reading and math teachers to determine updated placement criteria.

The rationale for a change in criteria came after several years of ongoing discussion regarding student placement.  Subjectivity involved in placement led to students being placed in classes that were above or below their ability. While a student’s work ethic should be ever-developing, we believe this work ethic should be built in a classroom that matches his/her current skill level.

Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, MAP and CoGAT scores will be used to determine a student’s placement in math and reading.

An average score will be taken from the last three MAP percentile scores and the CoGAT percentile score in either the verbal or quantitative section. The lowest of the three MAP percentiles will be dropped.

Example Math Placement:

Fall = 82

Winter = 87

Spring = 79 (Dropped)

CoGAT Quantitative = 85

82 + 87 + 85 = 85 (average)

Students will then be placed in order of their percentile average score.

Important to note, this new criterion will be used for rising 5th graders, new students, and students in grades 6, 7, and 8 who request a class change.

MAP and CoGAT scores have been sent home today. Please check your child/ren's Wednesday Folder.

We appreciate your partnership, as we strive to provide a solid education for each and every Gesu student.

AMDG,

Mrs. Regan Kazel

Principal

Field Day
Field Day is next week on Thursday, June 4.  This year will once again be divided by grade levels and students are asked to follow their grade level dress down attire accordingly.

Grades 1-4 students should wear PE Uniform bottoms and Gesu Spirit Wear top.

Grades 5-7 students will be assigned a specific color to represent their team.  Again we ask that students wear PE uniform bottoms and a top  in the color of their team. Homeroom teachers will be communicating the teams and coordinating colors to students early next week.

All students must wear athletic shoes and no face or body paint will be permitted.  All clothing must also follow the dress down guidelines found in the Gesu Handbook in order to participate in Field Day.  If you have any questions, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.

School Classroom Supply Kits

This year, Gesu is partnering with a new company called Impacks to provide our school with back to school classroom supply kits.  You can order a school supply kit for a limited time with the majority of supplies your student will need for the upcoming school year.  Unlike in years past, these kits are customizable allowing items to be deleted or added to each child's kit.

  1. Go here before July 15 and select your child’s upcoming grade: Here's a link to the school landing page.

  2. Each kit includes everything required, with the exception of a few things. Please be sure to read any parent notes or items requested but not included in the kit at the bottom of the list. Prices are comparable to Target, and cheaper than Amazon.

  3. Check out using a credit/debit card.

  4. Consider adding a donation at checkout. Impacks will match the first $5, and all funds will go to supporting Gesu!

  5. The supplies will be shipped directly to Gesu Catholic School and delivered to your child's homeroom in time for Student Orientation on Tuesday, August 25.

Be sure to purchase your supply kit before the deadline of July 15. Let us know if you have any questions!

Lost and Found
As we draw closer to summer break, please remind your child/ren to check the lost and found in the cafeteria for misplaced items.  PTO has created a photo album in hopes to return lost items to their owners.  Click HERE to help encourage your child/ren in reclaiming items.  Any items that remain at the end of this school year will be donated.

The school nurse can be reached at x119 or via email at: ddelmoro@gesu.com.   Medication cannot be stored in the school’s clinic during the summer break. All medication that is not picked up by June 4, will be considered unclaimed and will be disposed of according to the State of Ohio and local drug task force guidelines.

Attention Parents of Incoming 7th grade students:

All students entering 7th grade are required to have the Tdap booster vaccine and one dose of the Meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) prior to entry. Both of these vaccinations must be administered on or after the 10th birthday. Students who do not provide written documentation of these immunizations or an Ohio exemption form (see school website for form) within 14 days from the start of the school year are subject to exclusion from school until this documentation is provided (ORC 3313.671). Please provide a copy of the vaccine record from your child’s medical provider to the school nurse at: ddelmoro@gesu.com.
